Modjeskas are a 19th century Kentucky confection named after beloved Shakespearean actress Helena Modjeska. Modjeska was performing in Louisville in the 1880s when a local confectioner Anton Busath devised an eponymous caramel wrapped marshmallow to honor her.The Modjeska has been a favorite regional sweet since, but not after becoming popular in the rest of America, too!
